As promised, Netflix has finally released the Basic with Ads package in several countries today. You’ll be able to watch a few shows and movies while being interrupted by commercial breaks. When you’re ready to see all the products available without ads, you can upgrade.

For those of you who haven’t been following our Netflix news, this move has been on its way since before the start of the year. The entertainment giant saw too many subscribers leaving or new revenue slowing down. As such, it had to put plans in place to ensure a brighter financial future.

One such move is to monetize Netflix account sharing in 2023. However, the company doesn’t want to be too cruel to those who can’t afford the full, premium plan. If you have a tight budget, you can opt for the Basic with Ads option. It’s available as of today in France, Australia, the U.S., Japan, Germany, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, the U.K., Korea, and Canada.

What you can expect is fewer shows with ads at the start and in the middle of the episodes of movies. In this way, Netflix ensures you don’t break your bank while also obtaining the revenue it’s losing by offering this package. Also, it forecasts that it will bring in a younger audience who are unable to fork out the full amount while dealing with rent, studies, and groceries.

It will be interesting to see the Netflix reports every quarter to see if this plan will work. Of course, the company is hoping that they’ll see an increase in revenue, especially since full members now need to pay more if they want to share accounts.
